Quercus Tomentella - Island Oak (15 Gallon)

About this item

A distinctive California native evergreen oak, Island Oak brings year-round beauty and valuable wildlife habitat to the landscape. Native to California’s Channel Islands, this adaptable tree develops a variable growth habit, growing as a single-trunk specimen or a multi-trunked tree depending on its growing conditions.

Its glossy, dark green leaves feature prominent veining, toothed margins, and characteristically rolled-under edges. As the tree matures, its bark develops an attractive scaly, gray-brown texture, adding visual interest throughout the seasons. Small, inconspicuous male and female catkins produce acorns that provide an important food source for birds and other wildlife.

With its broad canopy and ecological value, Island Oak is an excellent choice for native gardens, naturalistic landscapes, and wildlife-friendly spaces. It thrives in moist conditions and provides food and shelter for a variety of animal species. Once established, it has relatively low water needs, making it a rewarding long-lived addition to suitable California gardens.
