Our Story

What began as a shared passion for plants and entrepreneurship grew into what is now The PLNThouse Nursery.

In 2008, during the housing market downturn, partners Jim and Brian launched a plant services company from the ground up: Pacific Coast Plants. What started as a small operation quickly developed into a thriving business, providing design, installation, and maintenance of interior and exterior plants for commercial spaces. Over time, their client list grew to include renowned names such as Four Seasons Hotels, Fox Studios, The Ritz-Carlton, Samsung, The Gap Corporation, and the ocassional celebrity home.

As their business flourished, so did their vision. Inspired by a deep appreciation for nature and the outdoors, Jim and Brian began searching for a space where they could expand—somewhere that would allow them to create not just a nursery, but an experience. Their journey led them to Santiago Canyon in Orange County, where they initially purchased land in Modjeska Canyon. While the setting was beautiful, it ultimately couldn't support the full scope of their vision.

Fate stepped in not long after. While passing by a nursery they had long admired, they noticed an unexpected "Available" sign. After meeting with the owner, Laurie, it became clear this was the perfect opportunity. With that, The PLNThouse Nursery was born.

Drawing on their strong relationships with interior designers and landscape architects, Jim and Brian built The PLNThouse Nursery to serve the wholesale market with high-quality plants and distinctive containers. But their vision extended beyond the traditional nursery model. Frequent travels to Europe—particularly France—have deeply influenced their aesthetic. The nursery reflects this inspiration, featuring curated antiques such as centuries-old pottery from Greece and Turkey, as well as reclaimed limestone troughs, all available for purchase.

Today, The PLNThouse Nursery is more than a place to source plants—it's a thoughtfully designed environment meant to inspire creativity, support design professionals, and offer a sense of calm, beauty, and timeless charm.
