Myrica Californica - Pacific Wax Myrtle (5 Gallon)

About this item

Elegant, versatile, and naturally lush, California Wax Myrtle is a distinguished evergreen native that brings year-round beauty and privacy to the garden. Native to coastal California, this vigorous, multi-trunked shrub develops into a handsome, upright form, making it an exceptional choice for refined hedges, natural screens, and lush garden backdrops.

Its glossy foliage ranges from bright to deep green, with slender, finely serrated leaves that release a pleasantly aromatic fragrance when crushed. In spring, delicate yellow flowers emerge, followed by clusters of distinctive, waxy purple berries that add seasonal interest while providing a valuable food source for birds and other wildlife. Its ability to attract birds and butterflies makes it as ecologically rewarding as it is beautiful.

With its adaptable growth habit and excellent response to pruning and training, California Wax Myrtle can be shaped into a formal privacy hedge or allowed to develop into a graceful, naturalistic screen. Depending on growing conditions and pruning, it can reach an impressive 10–30 feet tall and 10–20 feet wide, creating a substantial, verdant presence in the landscape.

A timeless choice for privacy, structure, and natural beauty, California Wax Myrtle combines the enduring appeal of evergreen foliage with the ecological benefits of a California native. Its versatility makes it especially well suited to coastal-inspired gardens, wildlife-friendly landscapes, and elegant outdoor spaces designed to feel both secluded and connected to nature.
