This vigorous, low-growing shrub is prized for its bright green evergreen foliage, spreading habit, and exceptional ability to stabilize slopes and cover challenging landscape areas.

Typically growing around 1 foot tall and spreading up to 6 feet wide, ‘Pigeon Point’ forms a dense, attractive carpet of greenery. Its fast growth rate makes it an excellent choice for covering large areas, and it tends to maintain a low, tidy appearance without becoming excessively woody for many years under suitable growing conditions.

Landscape Uses: An outstanding choice for slope stabilization, erosion control, groundcover, and low informal hedges. Its dense growth helps cover bare soil and is particularly useful on difficult sites where a hardy, adaptable native plant is needed. For effective coverage, plant nursery-grown specimens approximately 3–5 feet apart. With favorable growing conditions, the plants can fill in over roughly two years. Closer spacing creates a denser planting that may grow taller as individual plants overlap.

Growing Notes: ‘Pigeon Point’ adapts well to a variety of landscape conditions and is particularly valuable in low-water California gardens. Once established, it generally needs minimal supplemental irrigation. Occasional watering during dry periods may help rinse dust from the foliage, particularly in roadside or dusty environments. Avoid excessive irrigation and ensure adequate drainage for best results.

Wildlife Benefits: Like other Coyote Brush varieties, ‘Pigeon Point’ provides an important source of nectar for beneficial insects, including predatory wasps, native flies, and small native butterflies. Its flowers and evergreen growth help support a lively garden ecosystem throughout the year.

Plant Details

Botanical Name: Baccharis pilularis ‘Pigeon Point’

Common Name: Pigeon Point Dwarf Coyote Brush

Plant Type: Shrub

Mature Height: Approximately 1 foot; can reach up to 5 feet under some conditions

Mature Width: Approximately 6 feet

Growth Habit: Low-growing, spreading groundcover

Growth Rate: Fast

Foliage: Evergreen, bright green

Flowering Season: Summer and fall

Special Uses: Bank stabilization, groundcover, and hedges

A superb choice for California native landscapes, ‘Pigeon Point’ combines fast coverage, attractive evergreen foliage, and valuable wildlife benefits in a durable, low-maintenance groundcover ideal for slopes and challenging planting sites.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0820/7522/2231/files/IMG_7392_97610a6f-a365-42b4-b0d6-29948eecfcd1.jpg?v=1793302884
https://www.theplnthouse.com/products/baccharis-pilularis-ssp-pilularis-pigeon-point-1-gallon-dwarf-coyote-brush
